What is Scientology?
2007-07-10
Scientology is a religion which recognizes that man is basically good and offers tools anyone can use to become happier and more able as a person and to improve conditions in life for himself and others, and to gain a profound understanding of the Supreme Being and his relationship to the Divine. Developed by L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology technology provides exact principles and a practical technology for improving spiritual awareness, self-confidence, intelligence and ability. The word Scientology comes from the Latin word scio, meaning “know” and the Greek word logos, meaning “the word or outward form by which the inward thought is expressed and made known.” Thus, Scientology means knowing about knowing.
Scientology comprises a body of knowledge which extends from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:
Man is an immortal spiritual being.
His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime.
His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized.
Scientology further holds man to be basically good, and that his spiritual salvation depends upon himself and his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.
Scientology is not a dogmatic religion in which one is asked to believe anything on faith. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by applying its principles and observing or experiencing the results.
The ultimate goal of Scientology is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom for the individual.
The Merchants of Chaos
2007-05-29
There are those who could be called “merchants of chaos.” These are people who want an environment to look very, very disturbing. These are people who gain some sort of advantage, they feel, if the environment is made to look more threatening.
An obvious example can be seen in newspapers. Newspapermen shove the environment in people’s faces and say, “Look! It’s dangerous. Look! It’s overwhelming. Look! It’s threatening.” They not only report the most threatening bits of news, but also sensationalize it, making it worse than it is. What more do you want as a proof of their intention? This is the merchant of chaos. He is paid to the degree that he can make the environment threatening. To yearn for good news is foolhardy in a society where the merchants of chaos reign.
The chaos merchant has lots of troops among people with vested interests.
And do not think it an accident that the current justice system will take a dangerous criminal, throw him into prison, make him more antisocial and more dangerous and then release him upon the society. The more crime, the more police are needed.
Ideas of this kind are found in the society to a marked degree. It isn’t just the newspaper reporter or the politician; individuals here and there also engage upon this.
A lot of people spend their whole lives as professional chaos merchants; they worry those around them to death. The percentage who do this may be as high as one out of four. For example, a housewife, operating as a merchant of chaos in her sphere of influence, thinks of her husband, “If I can just keep Henry worried enough, he will do what I tell him.” She operates on the idea that it is necessary to spread confusion and upset. But along with this goes a concern, “I wonder why Henry doesn’t get ahead?” Naturally, she is making him sick.
The truth of the matter, however, is this: the environment is not as dangerous, ever, as it is made to appear. Instead, tremendous numbers of people and vast amounts of money are manufacturing a dangerous environment. In fact, in the 1960s a huge proportion of the national budget of the United States was dedicated to atomic war. But if they hadn’t developed the threat, there would not have been one. The money that financed the horror was busy supporting the horror.
It is not to the advantage of those who get their income, appropriations or public interest from the amount of disturbance to make a peaceful environment.
A Calming Influence
Anything that tends to pacify or bring a calmed environment is resisted by the vested interest that backs a disturbed environment.
To the degree Scientology progresses in an area, the environment becomes calmer and calmer. Not less adventurous, but calmer. In other words, the potential hostile, unreachable, untouchable threat in the environment reduces. Somebody who knows more about himself, others and life, and who gets a better grip on situations, has less trouble in his environment. Even though it may only be reduced slightly, it is reduced.
Newspapers can have a depressing effect on a person.
Since they deal largely in bad news, they present a generally bleak picture of the world.
One can carry the bad news around with him and get a negatively distorted idea of his surroundings, which may, in reality, actually be quite calm.
Even somebody who has heard very little of Scientology has less turmoil in his environment. An individual, less threatened by the environment, tends to resurge. He gets less apathetic. He thinks he can do more about life. He can reach outward a little further; therefore he can exert a calming influence upon his immediate environment.
As that progressed forward, more and more individuals would be produced who could bring more and more calm to the environment or handle things better and better. It is only the things which aren’t handled which are chaotic. It would result in a situation where the threat of the environment would die out. This overwhelming, overpowering environment would be tamer and tamer. People would be less and less afraid. You would have more and more opportunity of handling the actual problems that exist instead of people dreaming up problems in order to make some money off of it. It would be a different society.
The merchant of chaos does not like calming influences, however. He will fight anything which lessens disturbance in the environment.
For example, a wife has her husband completely under her thumb. She keeps him worried and upset morning, noon and night.
If the husband now engages in some activity which brings more calmness to the environment, there will be repercussions from the wife. If he is less disturbed, he is less under her control. She would naturally fight the thing that was making her husband more calm.
Yet disturbance and chaos fold up in the face of truth. It is lies which keep the universe continuously disturbed. The introduction of truth into a society would produce a calmer environment with less disturbance and therefore less that could be swindled out of that society by merchants of chaos. My Quiz Results for basicallygood

Restaint Deaths and Abuse
2007-05-04
Psychiatrists persist in inflicting psychosurgery and electroshock on patients even though no valid medical or scientific justification exists for these practices. After more than 60 years, psychiatrists can neither explain how they are supposed to work nor justify their extensive damage.
When Jennifer Martin’s 70-year-old mother experienced headaches and nausea and stopped eating and talking, a psychiatrist claimed she was in shock from recent deaths in her family and gave her ECT. Less than 24 hours later she was dead. An autopsy revealed that the problem was not depression, but a brain stem complication. “Shock treatment killed her,” Ms. Martin said.
A grieving husband says a psychiatrist recommended electroshock because it would release a chemical in the brain that would make his wife, Dorothy, feel better. Aware of her earlier heart attacks, he administered 38 electroshocks. The last one killed her.
Report psychiatric abuse
2007-05-03
Have you personally ever been abused or harmed by psychiatric or other “mental health” treatments?
Have you watched a family member, friend or loved one rapidly worsen—or even die—under psychiatric treatment?
Have you tried to tell a psychiatrist or psychiatric facility staff about the suspicious death of a loved one who was under psychiatric care, and been ignored, ridiculed or threatened for it?
If so, you are not alone. Through psychiatry’s false explanations, easy-seizure (commitment) laws, and depersonalizing “treatments,” every day thousands across the globe unwittingly fall into psychiatry’s coercive system.
If you have been subjected to or are aware of abuse, sexual assault, crime or malpractice committed by a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental health practitioner, CCHR is a group willing to listen to and help you.
It is vital that criminal and other psychiatric abuse is reported and acted upon by the proper law enforcement agencies. Only in this way can you protect yourself and those you care about from the possibility of psychiatric abuse and coercion.
QUESTION: WHAT SHOULD BE REPORTED?
ANSWER: Report any crime or act which you believe endangers the health, safety and well-being of a patient. This includes neglect, physical or sexual assault, abusive physical or chemical restraints, wrongful or excessive drugging, imprisonment (wrongful detention in a psychiatric facility), treatment without prior consent, manslaughter and fraud.
QUESTION: HOW SHOULD THIS BE REPORTED?
ANSWER: 1. Write up all known details about the abuse, including dates, places, names of psychiatrists, psychologists or others involved ensuring patient confidentiality is respected. Send this to the nearest CCHR chapter.
Following are some guidelines:
If the abuse involved physical or chemical restraints, do you know who ordered the restraints and under what circumstances? 2. Support your information with as much documentation as possible. Remember, do not do anything illegal. Use only evidence that is acquired legally to substantiate the abuse. 3. After allowing time for delivery of your report, call CCHR to further discuss the case, or to set up an appointment. Your report and your identity will be held in strict confidence. psychiatry creating racism
2007-05-03
Once it was culturally and politically acceptable for psychiatrists to invent the so-called "mental disease," "drapetomania"—the impulse of a slave to seek freedom. Today, it is both culturally and financially acceptable for psychiatrists to stigmatize with the label "mentally ill" those minority groups who are protesting racial oppression, educational discrimination and economic favoritism. Their cry is not a "mental illness," but rather the result of a sane and fundamental impulse to survive, and a valid protest against injustice.
Psychiatrists have targeted minority children, who are over-represented in Special Education in the United States and drugged.

When disaster strikes
2007-05-01
When disaster strikes, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers are among the first to arrive. Trained to respond to emergency situations, they provide whatever is needed to immediately alleviate suffering and bring order quickly. And because the technology they apply is simple and effective, they quickly train others so they too can provide help.
In the last year alone the Scientology Volunteer Ministers have given real help to 1.6 million people from all walks of life and in 114 countries. That is why Scientology Volunteer Ministers live by the motto:
Something Can Be Done About It.
The last decade has been one of the most turbulent in our history. Opposing ideologies, violent revolutions and a frail socioeconomic structure have subjected more than one-third of the world’s population to oppression, poverty and brutal human rights violations. Terrorism rips at the very fabric of society, propagating a mindset governed by hysteria, fear and anxiety.
However, emotional stress doesn’t halt at the borders of war-ravaged nations. Right at home the epidemics multiply—from drug abuse, delinquency and broken homes, to illiteracy, unemployment and the stress these problems all generate. Under these conditions, civic administrators and human services personnel bear a tremendous burden.
But there are answers, real ones that work. Delivered by Scientology Volunteer Ministersbecome a Volunteer Minister. whenever and wherever needed with remarkable results. These answers come from the greater body of Scientology technology and are intended for people of all beliefs. In fact, anyone of any belief can.
Over 87,000 strong and spanning every continent of Earth, Scientology Volunteer Ministers work directly with community leaders, officials, support personnel and citizens to bring order and real help in the face of any disaster. And because the last decade has been one of extreme turmoil, the demand for help has never been greater.
Psychiatric/Pharma Industry Cover Up

Cho Seung Hui is Potential 19th School Shooter Taking Violence-Inducing Psychiatric Drugs—While Pushing for Brave New World of Mandatory “Treatment”
While the families of the victims of the Virginia Tech (VT) massacre begin the process of grieving and recovery of their tragic loss and the nation searches for answers to yet another senseless school shooting, the psychiatric-pharmaceutical cartel is working at a frenzied pace, deflecting media and government attention away from the facts: Cho Seung Hui was reported to have been prescribed “depression” drugs. If so, Hui is the 19th school shooter reported to have been taking psychiatric drugs since 1988, when Prozac, the first in the new class of antidepressants linked to suicide and violent behavior hit the market.
During a 1991 Food and Drug Administration hearing, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a psychiatric watchdog group, was first to raise awareness about the serious risk of suicide and violent behavior linked to antidepressants. (Click here to watch the video.) CCHR says that mental health professionals today are continuing to protect their multi-billion dollar drug industry at the expense of the VT victims and their families. While unconscionable, it is predictable, as the same scenario unfolded following the Columbine school shooting, netting the mental health industry untold millions of dollars in government funding and more “rights” to scrutinize schoolchildren—all aimed at preventing another Columbine, all of which have failed. CCHR says that mental health “experts” are using this latest tragedy to push for mandatory mental health screening, psychiatric drug treatment and tougher commitment laws in a frightening Brave New World agenda which, if accepted, will only make matters worse and lead to further senseless massacres.
The idea that psychiatrists can predict or prevent a school shooting by screening students or treating them is a lie, CCHR says. There is no scientific means by which to predict violent behavior and the psychiatric community acknowledges that there is an 84% chance of incorrectly diagnosing a student as suicidal. The idea that the “risk” of school violence can be minimized by drugging individuals, against their will, while committed to an institution, is also false. The truth is that neither the absence of such drugs, or the failure to take them, is the problem.
CCHR’s policy statement in response to these moves for mandated screening and treatment, warns:
Psychotropic Drugs and Violence
-
Of the 1.5 million children and adolescents in the U.S. currently taking antidepressants, 4% could potentially become manic and violent—potentially 60,000 potential time bombs driven to senseless acts of violence. Mandatory toxicology tests for psychotropic drug intake are needed in all cases of violent crime and suicide. Congressional Hearings are needed into the link between psychiatric drugs and school violence.
-
Harvard Medical School psychiatrist, Dr. Joseph Glenmullen, author of Prozac Backlash, says antidepressants could explain the rash of school shootings and mass-suicides over the last decade. Those taking antidepressants, he said, could “become very distraught… They feel like jumping out of their skin. The irritability and impulsivity can make people suicidal or homicidal.”
-
In September 2006, Dr. David Healy, director of the North Wales Department of Psychological Medicine, and colleagues published the findings of their study of the antidepressant, Paxil, in the journal Public Library of Science Medicine stating: "We've got good evidence that the drugs can make people violent and you'd have to reason from that that there may be more episodes of violence."
-
In August 2006, The Archives of General Psychiatry published a study by Mark Olfson, MD, MPH stating that in children and adolescents, “the risk of suicide attempts was nearly two times higher after antidepressant drug treatment compared with no antidepressant drug treatment.” In 2005, Norwegian researchers found that Paxil was seven times more likely to induce suicide in people taking it than those taking placebo.
Screening/Predicting Violent Behavior
It is not possible for psychiatrists to determine with any accuracy violent or criminal behavior and they should not be given any increased powers to vent their lack of science.
-
Terrence Campbell writing in the Michigan Bar Journal, said, “The accuracy with which clinical judgment predicts future events is often little better than random chance” and the rate of “errors in predicting dangerousness” average “about 85%.”
-
The Supreme Court rendered the opinion that “the professional literature uniformly establishes that such predictions [of criminal behavior] are fundamentally of very low reliability…psychiatric testimony on the issue of future criminal behavior only distorts the fact-finding process.”
-
Legal experts say that involuntary commitment is especially problematic when based on a prediction that an individual may become violent or the potential for deterioration in the individual's mental status without treatment because such assessment is rooted only in speculation.
The Case Against Enforced “Treatment”
-
Self-determined decisions about one’s treatment is an interest long protected by the common law and encompassed within the Due Process Clauses of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. Violation of this fails to recognize that forcing treatment counters any potential therapeutic benefits and can cause substantial injury to the individual.
-
On June 30, 2006, the Alaska Supreme Court recognized that psychiatric drugs should not be easily forced on someone, stating: “Psychotropic drugs ‘affect the mind, behavior, intellectual functions, perception, moods, and emotion’ and are known to cause a number of potentially devastating side effects….” Further, “Given the nature and potentially devastating impact of psychotropic medications…we now similarly hold that the right to refuse to take psychotropic drugs is fundamental.”
CCHR was established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and eminent psychiatrist and author, Professor Thomas Szasz.

Where Does Stress Come From?
2007-04-27
A person who is stressed or ill is under suppression in one or more areas or aspects of life. The ability to recognize where such suppression is coming from, and then deal with it, is therefore vital for survival and success.
Volunteer Ministers deliver seminars and workshops regarding this, with remarkable results to people from all walks of life including: law enforcement personnel, government officials, doctors, nurses, human resources personnel and executives. The truth is, everyone needs this knowledge in order to flourish and prosper in life.

What is the Scientology view on drugs?
2007-04-23
Scientologists use medical drugs when physically ill and also rely on the advice and treatment of medical doctors. Scientologists do not take street drugs or mind-altering psychiatric drugs of any kind.
Scientologists believe that psychotropic or street drugs damage a person physically, mentally and spiritually. They decrease awareness and hinder abilities. They are a “solution” to some other problem and themselves become a problem.

Why is Scientology a religion?
2007-04-19
Scientology meets all three criteria generally used by religious scholars when examining religions: (1) a belief in some Ultimate Reality, such as the Supreme Being or eternal truth that transcends the here and now of the secular world; (2) religious practices directed toward understanding, attaining or communicating with this Ultimate Reality; and (3) a community of believers who join together in pursuing the Ultimate Reality.Scientology's belief in an Ultimate Reality that transcends the material world include its concepts of the thetan, the spiritual world (the seventh dynamic) and the Supreme Being (the eighth dynamic). The second element can be found in Scientology's life-rite ceremonies such as naming, marriage and funeral services, but predominantly in the religious services of auditing and training, through which Scientologists increase their spiritual awareness and attain an understanding of the spiritual world and, ultimately, their relationship with the Supreme Being. As to the third element, a very vital community of believers can be found at any church of Scientology at almost any time of the day.
Scientology is thus a religion in the oldest sense of the word. Scientology helps man become more aware of God, more aware of his own spiritual nature and that of those around him. Scientology Scripture recognizes that there is an entire dynamic (urge or motivation in life) devoted to the Supreme Being (the eighth dynamic) and another dynamic that deals solely with one's urge toward existence as a spirit (the seventh dynamic). Acknowledgment of these aspects of life is a traditional characteristic of religions.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers responded immediately to the Virginia Tech disaster
2007-04-18
I just read on the Scientology Volunteer Minister site that a team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers responded immediately to the Virginia Tech disaster and were offering grief counseling and trauma relief for students, family members, friends and local residents affected by the incident. Even though the campus was locked down by FBI, etc. the Scientology VMs were allowed access to help.
“Our team is here to help,” said the International Volunteer Ministers Consultant, who is coordinating the VM activities in the area. “Anyone needing to reach us should stop by our yellow tent. They can also contact us through the Founding Church of Scientology of Washington D.C. at (202) 797-9826 or call me on the Volunteer Ministers Hot Line at 1-800 HELP 4 YU (1-800 435-7498).”
“So many people are in shock over what occurred,” she went on to say. “That’s why, in addition to the one-on-one counseling we are providing, we are also training other volunteers so they can help as well. We’ve put out a call for any Volunteer Minister who can possibly arrange it, to come join us.”
“I can’t emphasize enough the importance of getting help,” said the VM Consultant. “If you need to talk to someone, call or email me at 1-800 HELP 4 YU (1-800 435-7498) or contact me on-line. These techniques may be simple but they are enormously helpful. That’s one reason that our motto is, ‘Something CAN be done about it.’”
One assist that is very simple to learn is called the “Nerve Assist.” When people have come through a traumatic incident like this, they often have trouble sleeping. They can be extremely tense, unable to relax. Some people even shake or experience muscle spasms. Nerve Assists help with this and are a proven way to begin any trauma relief.

Another technique that is recommended is the al Assist . Shock tends to rivet an individual’s attention. The al Assist helps orient the person in his or her environment. The relief people experience from this process can be really dramatic—even with people who were completely grief-stricken. This is also described in the Scientology Handbook. ![]()

For those in need of grief counseling, the assist to use is “Handling a Loss.” This is online in a chapter of the Scientology Handbook called “Solutions for a Dangerous Environment.“

Chick Corea Wins Two Grammy Awards
2007-02-15
In case you weren't following the Grammy winners that closely I thought I'd pass on the fact that Chick Corea won two Grammy awards for:
Instrumental Arrangement: "Three Ghouls," Chick Corea, arranger, from "The Ultimate Adventure."
Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group: "The Ultimate Adventure," Chick Corea.
Check out the full Grammy list here
The Ultimate Adventure—like last year’s Elektric Band reunion album To the Stars —draws its inspiration from the fiction of L. Ron Hubbard, Corea’s Scientology mentor for the past 35 years.
And here's is what Chick has to say about his involvement with Scientology:
"The single greatest thing that studying Scientology has done for me is that it’s helped me become freer. Freer to create life as I want to, without being thrown off from my objectives. One of the first simple successes was that I learned to handle and remove my own self-imposed barriers and restraints. Through further study, my ability to handle life around me also increased. This freedom has been hard won, but the rewards are great.
"My study of Scientology has also enabled me to write more music. I have become quicker and am able to use all of the musical abilities that I already have. I gained a new understanding of what the proper importances are in the process of creating music.
"Scientology has helped me to live better. Using the basic principles of Scientology has become a natural way of life for me. From Scientology I've gotten a freedom to learn whatever I want to learn in life and I'm gaining new abilities all the time."
